Synopsis: Decarbonising our country’s 30 million buildings is essential if we are to meet our legally binding fuel poverty and net zero carbon emissions targets by 2050. Central to Government’s efforts, is supporting social and low-income households to afford the transition to low carbon energy and heating. Selvin Brown, Director of the Energy Efficiency and Localisation Directorate at the Department of Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy, will talk about the emerging opportunities there are in the sector to deliver real and lasting change that will impact our communities positively across the country for decades to come.

In an environment of increased regulation and need for better data governance across the sector; we will explore the importance of creating a culture and process build on well managed and good quality data.

Using a practical application of the UK Housing Data Standard’s development handover, illumar will unpick the ways in which this can support social housing organisation to become more data-driven.

Bringing information together to create a single source of the truth for a housing organisation is imperative to provide assurance to Boards and managers. To deliver this requires a clear data management strategy, timely application of a solution and an approach that is sustainable over time. This session will include three short presentations on each of these aspects followed by Q&A:

14:00-14:45 | Priorities for central and local government in decarbonising housing
Simon Bittestone, Director at National Audit Office

This presentation will draw on the National Audit Office’s recent reports on government’s efforts to achieve its net zero target to set out the key risks and opportunities for central and local government in the challenge to decarbonise the housing sector. This includes ensuring there is clear roles and responsibilities between the different government organisations involved; engaging with members of the public; ensuring local authorities have sufficient skills and resources; and managing links between the housing sector and other aspects of the net zero challenge.

15:30-16:15 | Debunking MMC Myths
